MECHANICAL ENGINEER INTERN
We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Mechanical Engineering Intern to join our team. As an intern, you will gain hands-on experience in various aspects of mechanical engineering, working alongside experienced engineers, contributing to the design, analysis, and testing of parts and/or assemblies associated with Hazelett continuous casting machines, as well as the unique equipment needed to produce the casting belts used on these machines. You will have the opportunity to apply your academic knowledge to real-world projects, developing technical skills and gaining industry insights.
DURATION: Mid May - Mid August
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Assist in the design, analysis, and testing of mechanical components and systems.
Help create and modify 3D models, CAD drawings, and technical documentation.
Participate in prototype development, assembly, and testing.
Support the engineering team in identifying design improvements or solutions to technical challenges.
Conduct research on materials, components, and technologies relevant to ongoing projects.
Assist with product testing, data collection, and analysis.
Help prepare technical reports and presentations for internal teams and clients.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including electrical, software, and manufacturing engineers.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
Familiarity with CAD software (SolidWorks and/or DraftSight is preferred)
Basic knowledge of mechanical systems, materials, and manufacturing processes.
Strong problem-solving skills and analytical thinking.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The duties of this position will be carried out in a manufacturing facility with a mix of office and hands-on work. Exposure to fumes, noise, and gases from equipment or machinery may occur. Individual must be able to work in these environments for extended periods of time and able to do moderate lifting. Safety shoe and safety glasses must be utilized when working in a production area.
